WELCOME
The Ontario Rifle Association was formed in 1868, in association with the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association, to provide civilians with the opportunity to practice and improve their marksmanship in support of the defense of Canada. With a history of over 150 years, the Ontario Rifle Association continues to offer a wide range of shooting opportunities, catering to participants at all levels-from beginners to world-class competitors.
The Ontario Rifle Association is a provincial governing body for long-range rifle sport-not a gun club. Our role is to support sport shooters through structured training, organized competition, and events conducted at military and authorized private ranges.
ORA events are held outdoors on military shooting ranges at distances from 100 to 1,000 yards. Access to these ranges is restricted to specific days and times.
To maximize the use of range facilities, most ORA events are full-day sessions, typically running from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 5:00 p.m.
Our range of activities includes
- Training courses to improve marksmanship and shooting skills
- Practice days at distances from 100 to 1,000 yards
- Competitive events for a variety of rifle disciplines
- Opportunities to compete at Provincial, National, and International levels
- Most importantly, the chance to connect and compete with others who share a common interest
We offer shooting programs suited to a wide range of rifles and experience levels.
Rifle shooting with the ORA is a safe and disciplined sport. We take pride in our strong safety record, upheld through the shared responsibility of all participants.
